Breaches and Attacks
Most cyberattacks in the past have had the United States, Russia and China as either perpetrators or victims. There have also been various incidences of corporations being targeted, by private groups, governments, or both.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Stealth Fighter

  • China has been reponsible for many cyberattacks in the past two decades, some of them include:
  • Theft of Data from the Lockheed Martin F-35 Program - The Wall Street Journal reported China being responsible for the theft of data from the Lockheed Martin's F-35 program in April of 2009. Multiple incidences of data theft from the F-35 program allegedly went on for years.
  • Titan Rain - A hacking group sponsored by the Chinese government codenamed by the FBI as "Titan Rain" was uncovered in 2004, it was discovered that they had stolen massive amounts of data from military labs, NASA, the World Bank and other organizations.
  • The Attack on the Naval War College - the Naval War College in Rhode Island had to shut down its computer systems following a cyber attack from the Chinese. The Naval War College is where many of the United States military strategies are deveoped.
  • Russian President, Vladimir Putin

    • Russian cyberwarfare in the past has included DDOS attacks, disinformation and propaganda campaigns and data theft some examples from the last few years include:
  • The 2007 Cyberattacks on Estonia - In 2007, Estonia was targeted by a series of DDOS attacks which resulted in the shutdown of many financial, media and government websites. Online banking and telecommuncation was made unaccessible and media outlets were unable to distribute news. There is some dispute between experts on whether or not this attack was perpetrated by the Russians, but the Estonian officials allegedly traced the source of the cyberattacks back to Russia.
  • Anti Vaccination Campaign - The same Russian trolls who attempted to influence the 2016 presidential election were held responsible for spreading propaganda against vaccinations in 2018. This campaign was potentially responsible for causing a measles outbreak in Europe.
  • The Shutdown of ISPs in Krygyzstan - In January of 2009, two of Krygyzstan's major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) were shutdown after a large-scale DDoS attack. It effectively took the nation offline, these attacks took place when the Krygyzstan president was being pressured into shutting down a U. S. air base in the country. The Wall Street Journal reported these attacks being perpetrated by Russia.
  • The Former Mossack Fonseca Headquarters

    • Many corporations have been the victims of cyberattacks including the theft of intellectual property and user data, some of these attacks include:
  • The Panama Papers Scandal - The Mossack Fonseca law firm was forced to shut down after the leak of 11.5 million confidential documents which exposed the use of offshore corporations to evade taxes by many people and entities, these documents were known as the Panama Papers. Mossack Fonseca was shutdown in March of 2018.
  • Adobe Security Breach - A cyberattack in 2013 launched against Adobe is reportedly to have resulted in the leak of personal information from 38 million users. Information included emails, passwords, credit card information and more. Adobe also reported source code for Photoshop, Acrobat and ColdFusion having been stolen.
  • The Attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment - In 2014, millions of confidential documents from Sony were stolen and then posted online. These documents included details of recent film productions and employee data such as salaries. The US government believes that it was perpetrated by North Korea.
